Hunting for a Cause, Feeding Our Community.

Deer to Care is a group of individuals who cherish the camaraderie and adventure that hunting provides and are also deeply aware of the issues of hunger and food insecurity in our community.

We have combined these passions to create a plan to donate high-quality, free-range wild game to local charities that distribute the meat to those in need.

In addition, we provide the same high-quality meat to active and retired volunteers such as firemen, ambulance personnel, police officers, and returned service members as a thank-you for their service in making our communities a great place to live.

One deer can provide meals for

200 people

Turning hunting into helping.

Our partners provided feedback on the impact of the mince we donate. One deer recovered by Deer to Care can produce 30kgs of mince, or 50 packets. Each packet is generally enough to enhance a meal for four people.

This means that one deer recovered by the Deer to Care team can result in approximately 200 people having a meal assisted with Deer to Care-donated mince.

The wild game is harvested from local areas such as forests or farms and taken to a certified butcher before being donated to one of many charities that distribute it to the community in need.

From paddock to pan, bringing the best from the wild to our communities.

  • Deer to Care

We discuss our goals with our partners and sponsors. Once they understand what Deer to Care aims to achieve, they are eager to "Share the Care" and inform us of where and when we can hunt to gather the wild game.

  • On the Mission

We set off on our mission to hunt the animals. On a good day, we enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery and bring back field-dressed free-range wild game.

  • Processing and Packaging

We take the wild game directly to the butcher’s chiller. The certified butcher inspects and processes the animal into high-quality meat goods for the Deer to Care program. They notify us when the job is done, and the packed and labeled frozen goods are ready.

  • Donate the Processed Goods

We deliver the donated goods to our partner charities, the real community superstars who support people in need. These charities use the donated goods to support their wider initiatives. We ensure our deliveries are timely and responsive to their changing demands.

  • Share the Care

We provide a means for the charities and their recipients to share the essence of community care and what it means to them. Sharing the care is essential for expressing the gratitude and empathy that makes the Deer to Care program work.

Meeting standards, exceeding expectations.

Our initiative complies with MPI requirements. We have been in communication with the Animal Products Team – Food Regulation, who have confirmed that our activities fit within the requirements of the recreational catch regulations, with the fundamental matter being that at no point are we selling or trading the meat. You can find out about these regulations by visiting the MPI website here.

Staying hidden while hunting in the bush or on the hills is a fundamental attribute of a good hunter. At Deer to Care, we apply the same philosophy to our operations. You won’t see us cutting ribbons or high-fiving, but we will read and respond to any messages you send us, provided we are not on a priority hunting mission!
